About Sheffield Futures Sheffield Futures is an independent charity formed by combining Sheffield Careers Guidance Services with Sheffield City Council's Youth Service. Its aims are, broadly, to make Sheffield a better place to live and work by providing individuals and organisations with high quality information, advice, guidance and support across a wide spectrum of activities relating to their work, education, training and personal and social development. Through its activities in support of individuals, Sheffield Futures plays a major part in economic regeneration and community development within Sheffield. Many of its activities also play a substantial part in addressing both the causes and the symptons of social exclusion in the city.Sheffield Futures has, for example, major projects directed to combating crime, alcohol and drug abuse, teenage pregnancy and truancy. Sheffield Futures believes in the power of local communities to help themselves. Most, if not all, our projects are conducted in close collaboration with local community groups. Sheffield Futures is a substantial organisation with around 500 employees. While the majority of our resources are directed at our services for young people, we also provide a wide range of services for adults and for employers. Our advice and guidance services for adults have a national reputation and have won a number of prestigious awards from the Institute for Careers Guidance recognising excellence and innovation. Sheffield Futures serves three main groups - young people, adults and employers. The combination of the work of the careers service and youth service within a single organisation is unique - no other major city in England currently has this level of provision. Bringing these services together in this way means that Sheffield Futures is one of the largest contributors to the Connexions Services in the country as well as making it the driving force for the development of the service in Sheffield. |
